The Project aims to increase the profitability of cereal farms in Tuscany through the introduction of legumes in crop rotations and the adoption of a “low-input” approach with innovative technical means and precision farming techniques.
The final results will be a tool for farmers interested in evaluating economically and environmentally the transition to sustainable strategies. In addition, the Project will evaluate the environmental impacts of conventional versus integrated “low-input” systems.
3 main operations:
- Crop diversification: Introduction of grain legumes in crop rotations to increase diversification.
- Economic-environmental assessment: Providing useful results for farmers regarding the economic and environmental desirability of transitioning to sustainable strategies, including an analysis of the environmental impacts of “low-input” versus conventional systems.
- Low-input approach: Adoption of a low-input approach with the integrated use of innovative technical means and precision farming techniques.
Description of the operation: increasing the profitability of cereal-industrial farms in Tuscany according to integrated strategies to reduce economic and environmental inputs through the use of innovative technical means and precision agriculture for an increase in crop diversification, with the inclusion of grain legumes in the rotation and management of the set of crops in rotation (wheat and sunflower).
