Project objectives:
Monitoring service of the environmental effects of grassland habitat restoration intervention through the containment of aquiline fern and rhododendron. Assessment of improved ecosystem services (carbon storage and biodiversity) for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Services provided:
- Identification and establishment of permanent experimental demonstration areas
- Creation of soil profiles for each identified area
- Monitoring of vegetation, possibly including satellite and drone imagery, to assess the effects and evolutionary dynamics induced by interventions
- Monitoring of soil carbon sequestration to assess changes in this parameter over time
- Survey of pollinating insects (lepidoptera, apoids and hoverflies) and orthoptera
- Investigation of soil macroinvertebrates with special reference to Carabidae
- Carbon stock determination
- Development of a monitoring protocol that specifies methods of conduct and content for future monitoring
